Pawtrait doesn't collect, store, or share any of your photos, videos, sounds, or personal information — those stay entirely on your device. The app does send crash reports and two narrow, anonymous usage events (see below) to help fix bugs and understand which breeds and sounds are popular. If you message us through the contact form on this website, we receive what you type into it. There are no accounts, no ads, and nothing is ever used to track you across other apps.
Pawtrait is developed by David Swan. This policy explains what happens (and doesn't happen) with your information when you use the Pawtrait app on iOS, and when you use this website.
Pawtrait is a camera app designed to help you photograph and film your pets. To do this, it may ask for permission to use:
Camera — to show a live preview and let you take photos and videos. Nothing is captured unless you tap the shutter or record button.
Photo Library (add only) — to save the photos and videos you take. Pawtrait can only add new items to your library; it cannot read, browse, or access any of your existing photos.
Microphone — only if you choose to record a custom attention sound within the app. This recording is stored locally on your device.
All of the above stays entirely on your device. Pawtrait does not upload, transmit, or share your photos, videos, custom sound recordings, or pet profile information (name, breed, etc.) to any server, and Pawtrait's developer never has access to any of it.
Pawtrait periodically checks a software update service (provided by Expo, the development platform Pawtrait is built on) to see if a newer version of the app is available. This check involves only standard technical information such as app version and device platform — no personal information, photos, or usage data is included.
To help catch bugs and understand which parts of the app people actually use, Pawtrait sends two limited, narrowly-scoped categories of technical data to third-party services acting on its behalf:
Crash and error reports, via Sentry — if the app crashes or hits an unexpected error, a report is sent containing a stack trace, device model, OS version, and app version. This never includes your name, photos, pet's name, or any other personal information.
Two specific usage events, via PostHog — which pet breed gets chosen during setup, and which sound cue actually gets played. That's it: no screen-by-screen tracking, no session recordings, and no advertising or tracking identifier shared across other apps or companies.
Neither service is used for advertising, neither is linked to your identity (there are no accounts, names, or emails to link to), and neither combines this data with information from other apps.
This website is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no advertising, and does not track you as you browse.
The one exception is the contact form on the Support page. If you choose to use it, we receive the name, email address, optional device details and message you type in. That information is used for one purpose only — to read your message and reply to you. It is not added to a mailing list, not sold or shared, and not used for marketing.
How it reaches us — the form is processed by a small function running on Cloudflare, who host this site, and delivered to the developer's email inbox. Cloudflare also provides the anti-spam check on the form. Neither the message nor your details are stored in a database on this website.
How long we keep it — your message sits in an ordinary email inbox. Messages are deleted once the conversation has clearly finished and there's no reason to keep them, and in any case within 24 months.
Cloudflare also processes standard server information — such as IP address and browser type — as part of delivering and protecting the site, which is a normal part of how any website is served.
Under UK and EU data protection law, the lawful basis for handling your contact-form message is our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries about the app. You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask us to delete it, at any time — just say so in a message.
Pawtrait does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. The crash reports and usage events described above are anonymous and not linked to any individual's identity. All photos, videos, and sound recordings you create stay on your own device.
If this policy ever changes — for example, if a future version of Pawtrait adds a feature that changes how data is handled — this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will reflect the change.
